What if you could go easy on your wallet this year by choosing a ski resort with free ski passes for children? All across the Alps, there are loads of ski resorts that will let your kids ski free when accompanied by an adult, and others that offer deals for the whole family when adults and kids are skiing together. We’ve looked around to find some of the most interesting family discounts out there. Whether you’re headed to Austria, Switzerland, France or Italy this winter, check out some of the best deals.
It’s quite common for ski areas in the Alps offer free lift passes for children under 6. But once your kids are past this golden age, it becomes more difficult to find affordable deals on family ski passes. There are, however, several dozen ski resorts that offer a free ski pass all the way to 7 years of age, and a handful of ski areas that offer free ski passes for children under 10.

The Almenwelt Lofer is known for being one of the most family-friendly ski resorts in Austria. The ski area comprises of 50km of slopes, most of which are also suitable for young skiers. The ski resort offers reduced family rates for families of two parents and two children, plus a free ski pass from the third child. As an added bonus, children under the age of 15 ski free every Saturday at the Almenwelt Lofer when accompanied by a paying parent.
Nearby Innsbruck with its plethora of winter sports offerings, Stubai offers very attractive discounts for families. Children under 10 years old ski free when a parent buys a ski pass, and skiers from 10-14 years of age receive a special youth rate.

At Alpe d'Huez, adults pay the same price as children for ski passes 6 days or longer. This means for a family of four with two kids under 13, you would pay the price of four youth tickets. To qualify for the discount, you must buy your ski pass online at least a week ahead of time.
Similar to L’Alpe d’Huez, La Plagne offers a family pack for ski passes of 6 days or longer. Families with 2 adults and 2 children between 5-17 years old pay the price of the children’s lift pass for every person. La Plagne also gives a €10-per-person discount on 6-day lift passes for two people or more and a €15-per-person discount on 6-day lift passes for groups of 3 skiers or more. It doesn’t matter whether these are adult, children or senior skiers, but these discounts are only available for groups paying in one single payment.
