As promised in my recent article on Orelle - “A little gem with a big secret”- here is some more information about accommodation at the 3 star Hameau des Eaux d’Orelle residence. At the opposite end of the 3 Vallées ski area from Courchevel, Orelle really is at the opposite end on the ski resort scale with a low-key, genuine and unpretentious atmosphere which counts for the accommodation too. This attractive chalet-style residence perches on the hillside overlooking Orelle with pretty views down the valley. If simplicity, pleasant service and decent prices are what you’re looking for, then you’ll be in heaven here.
A charming mountain hamlet
This large, spacious residence is set out exactly as its name suggest – “hameau” meaning hamlet - with the reception, restaurant/bar, spa center/pool, small shop and conference room all in the main building surrounded by 6 smaller buildings within a 1-minute walk, giving you the impression of staying in a small hamlet.
There are 167 apartments in total, all decorated with comfortable, modern, furnishings, satellite TV, hi-fi and a well-equipped kitchenette. Sleeping from 2 to 8 people, the apartments are surprisingly spacious in comparison to a lot of lower-cost ski resort accommodation. The apartments range from 23 to 65m² and all have balconies, giving an airy, spacious feel to even the smaller ones, with lovely views of the valley or mountains. A pleasant, spacious apartment for 4 people will cost as little as 60€ per person for one week – a mere drop in the ocean compared to other ski resorts in the Trois Vallées ski area!
What else?
In the 200m² wellness centre, there is a pleasant reception area with wonderful sunset views, swimming pool, spa, sauna, massages and special treatments to help you relax those tired muscles! There’s nothing better than a bit of pampering at the end of the day!
With its wellness center, the restaurant/bar, conference room, ski lockers, free indoor or outdoor parking and a small shop for basic groceries, this residence has certainly earned its 3 stars!
Feel right at home
A weekend spent in
Orelle
was full of pleasant experiences – one of which was staying in the Hameau des Eaux d’Orelle where I was welcomed by the relaxed and friendly staff and was put up in one of the nicely decorate apartments with all mod cons and plenty of white fluffy towels! The views from the private balconies are just breathtaking from dawn till dusk, overlooking the valley with the far off snow capped summits dominating the backdrop.
The management here has recently changed meaning there is a new restaurant manager and staff – helpful, friendly and efficient is all I need to say – and off course, not forgetting some good basic home-cooked food. A simple but fresh salad to start, one of the best paellas I have eaten since my last visit to Spain, a generous portion of excellent local cheese and a “tarte au noix” that left my mouth watering were served with a smile – I certainly didn’t go to bed hungry!
A wander down from the residence takes you through some pretty scenery with the river running fast over various waterfalls and under bridges – some beautiful photo opportunities – and into the tiny village of Orelle! If you’re legs are too tired, the free shuttle bus will take you from the front door of the main building to the village and 3 Vallées Express cable car in 2 minutes. There is a bus every 15 minutes.
After a weekend spent in this residence, I left feeling relaxed, rested and well-fed! The only detail that played on my mind while staying here was that a “kids club” would be the cherry on the cake making this a perfect place to stay with young children… A project for the future perhaps!
