No!!! Here at Snowplaza we strongly believe that you are never too old for skiing or snowboarding, and we are already planning to ski through our last days! Will this be possible? There's one golden rule when it comes to deciding whether or not you should keep skiing or snowboarding: listen to your own body!
Fit & healthy for your ski holiday
Your ski holiday is something you look forward to all year - a week full of fun in the snow! But it also brings the prospect of aches and pains if you're not in good physical condition. That's why it's important to keep fit throughout the year, in preparation for your ski holiday (and because it's just generally good for you!). As you age, you can't expect your body to be as flexible and strong as it was before. You might find you lose muscle mass, bone strength and even balance, all of which give you a higher chance of injuring yourself on the slopes. But by eating properly and exercising regularly, you can help minimise these changes to a certain extent.
Developing good technique
Everyone has heard legends of skiers who ski into their 80's and 90's without any apparent difficulty. You dream of being that skier - what's the secret? Well, one way to keep skiing longer is to develop proper technique starting in your younger years. Skiing or snowboarding with proper technique helps put less strain on your body, so be disciplined right now and you can expect it to pay off in later years.
Your own choice
Facilities at ski resorts are getting better every year, with plush gondolas, chairlifts with heated seats, and even lighter skis and more comfortable ski boots. These things make it tempting to keep skiing longer, but ultimately the choice is up to you. If you no longer feel safe or comfortable on your skis, there's no shame in hanging them up.
George Jedenoff: skiing legend
Still don't believe it's possible to keep skiing past a certain age? Check out the inspiring story of George Jedenoff, the oldest skier in the world. He's now 102 years old and still skiing. This legend is living proof that there's no reason to stop skiing just because you're in your golden years!
