Kirchberg is a bustling resort with cozy apres-ski and a good all round ski area with access to other well-known ski areas. It’s easy to understand why this Austrian ski resort is so popular with Dutch skiers and snowboarders. Thousands come annually to this charming ski resort in the Kitzbühel Alps to enjoy good skiing and some very Dutch apres-ski in the local bars. You can reach the ski area of Kirchberg in 2 ways. Via the old and sometimes slow Fleckalmbahn lift or the faster and more modern Maierlbahn lift. Both lifts are a bit outside the resort center but are quickly accessible by ski bus or car. The blue runs in the ski area of Kirchberg are a delight for less experienced skiers. Beginners can quickly gain confidence on the rolling slopes such as the 26, 16, 27, 28 and 29 runs. Our reporters found the connecting paths a bit dull in terms of skiing, however, the views are apparently beautiful. The blue run 30 is just a bit steeper so beginners can challenge their newfound skills.
Slopes in Kirchberg perfect for beginners
Kirchberg shares its ski area with the well-known ski resort of Kitzbuhel and on this side of the mountain the slopes are steeper and more challenging. Here you will find the notorious Streif run which annually hosts the famous Hahnenkamm race. There is also a family-friendly version of the Streif, which is slightly easier and less steep! If you’re looking for more runs then you can take the 3S-Bahn towards the ski areas of Jochberg and Pass Thurn. Our Ski Safari team unfortunately could not make the crossing during their visit due to strong winds that caused closure. There is so much skiing accessible from Kirchberg, including of course, the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental ski area with another 280 km of slopes which can be reached quickly through the Gampenkogel.

The Ski Safari team reported no lack of mountain restaurants and cafés in Kirchberg. Their favorite was the Ochsalm, at the valley station of the Ochsalm lift. A beautiful little restaurant with good food and fast service. There are also several umbrella bars in Kirchberg where things get very cozy for an afternoon or apres-ski drink. On the other side of Kirchberg is another mountain with a chairlift: the Gaisberg. In addition to a beautiful red piste you will also find a great toboggan run and here you can even have a go at ice climbing too. A nice way to vary the apres-ski activities on your ski holidays in Kirchberg.
After a day on the slopes in Kirchberg, the Dutch skiers and snowboarders all get together for some very Dutch apres-ski. Every evening in the Eisbar, the Londoner, the Schatzi and the Tyrolean, the party gets going. The apres-ski is very Dutch in Kirchberg as most bars and pubs are actually run by Dutch people. This could make a pleasant change from the traditional Austrian apres-ski atmosphere you expect in Austrian ski resorts. The Ski Safari team also tried the latest addition to the nightlife in Kirchberg - the Showtime nightclub – which stays open until 04:00 am! Even though there is plenty going on in the evening, our reporters claim that you can sleep peacefully in Kirchberg - you might just hear a couple of jolly party-goers meandering back to their ski apartment in the early hours!

Being lucky enough to have parents who were crazy about skiing, my love for the mountains started when I was 4 years old on our first family ski holiday to Austrian ski resort of Obergurl.
