Near the village of Vallorcine in the Rhone-Alps lies the ski area Domaine de Balme - Poya, comprising of 2 ski areas - the Domaine de Balme and Domaine de la Poya. These ski areas are located beween altitudes of 1453 meters and 2270 meters above sea level and can be accessed from the village of Vallorcine.
Both parts of the Domaine de Balme - Poya ski area are small and ideal for families. If you want to learn to ski in a quiet, low-key ski area then you should come here for your first lessons. The Domaine de Balme ski area is situated between beautiful forests and meadows and offers fantastic views over the Chamonix valley and surrounding mountains. The Domaine de Balme part offers 29 km of slopes, of which a large part is mostly blue and red. The La Poya part of the ski area is not separate but is really a super ski area for children. There are many green runs and two lifts for children. Both areas have no black runs but you are not that far from Chamonix and its famous ski slopes. Both areas have nice restaurants on the slopes.
