Authentic French cuisine
The French municipality of Besse includes several villages, of which the largest is Besse et Saint Anastaise, simply known as Besse. Besse is located not too far from the Super Besse ski area, which in turn is connected to the town of Super Besse, also part of the Besse municipality. While Super Besse is a true ski town with plenty of ski-in, ski-out accommodation but not much else, the larger Besse et Saint Anastaise offer an authentic French village feel with small streets and impressive monuments.
Both villages see more traffic in the winter than the summer, although you will never find many crowds in either Besse or Super Besse. The region has remained quite affordable, and in Besse et Saint Anastaise you’ll find a nice selection of cosy bars and elegant restaurants – just don’t come here expecting rowdy après-ski. Nearby Super Besse is a typical French ski resort town featuring mostly drab new buildings, leaving skiers and snowboarders the choice between comfort and convenience close to the slopes, or a nicer ambience further away.
