Skiing on the Zugspitze means skiing on two levels on the Zugspitzplatt and in the Garmisch-Classic ski area. For over 80 years skiing has been practiced on the slopes of Hausberg (1,310), Kreuzeck (1,651 m) and Osterfeldkopf (2,050 m). The ski slopes in Garmisch-Classic are quite wide, mostly intermediate level and up to 6.5km long. The most difficult run is the Kandahar world cup piste, which runs almost 4km from the Kreuzjoch down to the valley. Cross-country skiing and extended hikes over 170 km in length can also be done in and around the Zugspitze. A detour to the Austrian side to the Tiroler Zugspitzarena is worthwhile and is included in the ski pass.
