Les Portes du Soleil is one of the world's largest linked ski areas, with more than 600km of pisted ski runs. The ski area is located on the French-Swiss border, and the endless network of ski slopes in the Portes du Soleil allows you to try different routes every day during your ski holidays. The French side of the Portes du Soleil area is packed with ultra-modern ski lifts and is perfectly interconnected, while the Swiss side offers the possibility to try heli-skiing on virgin powder snow. Each village within the ski area offers its own unique atmosphere, from the modern, car-free Avoriaz to the lively Morzine with its picturesque chalets, to the charming villages of Châtel en Les Gets. While staying in Les Portes du Soleil, you can choose from a (cheaper) ski pass for your own ski area, or a ski pass that allows you to access the entire Portes du Soleil linked ski area.
The Portes du Soleil ski area spans 12 ski resorts, 8 on the French side (Abondance, Avoriaz, Châtel, La Chapelle d'Abondance, Les Gets, Montriond, Morzineand St-Jean-d'Arves) and 4 on the Swiss side Champéry, Morgins, Torgon and Val d'Illiez-Champoussin & Les Crosets). The ski area stretches from Lake Geneva in Switzerland through to the Mont Blanc region in France! Some of the most popular ski resorts include the authentic Les Gets and the pedestrian ski resort of Avoriaz. With so much skiing on offer, it goes without saying that there's something for all levels and tastes. And let's not forget to mention, there are plenty of mountain restaurants where you can stop to rest your weary legs and enjoy a drink with panoramic views of the Alps! Les Portes du Soleil is relatively easy to reach from the UK: the closest resorts are just over an hour's drive from Geneva Airport, or you can drive all the way from Calais.

Exploring Les Portes du Soleil ski area
The Portes du Soleil ski area is relatively low-lying, which means many of the picturesque slopes are located below the treeline. But that doesn't stop the powder from coming: Les Portes du Soleil has had record-breaking years with over 8m of cumulative snowfall! Expert skiers can tackle challenging slopes like the World Cup piste and Le Pas de Chavanette (otherwise known as Le Mur Suisse, or The Swiss Wall). The latter is reputed to be one of Europe's toughest black runs and sports waist-high moguls that run down a vertical drop of more than 300 metres. Snowboarders are spoilt for choice in the Portes du Soleil, which has a great selection of snow parks with half-pipes, hand rails and various other jumps and cool features.
