Saas-Fee in short

  • Height: 1800 - 3600 metres
  • Glacier skiing
  • Home to world's highest revolving restaurant
  • Marked off-piste runs

Saas Fee, the “Pearl of the Alps”, where snow is never lacking (thanks to its glacier), offers some spectacular and unforgettable skiing. The excellent conditions on the mountain are so sought after that the Swiss ski team come here to train on the glacier in the summer! High altitudes combined with north-facing slopes make the ski area of Saas Fee one of the most reliable, snow-sure places to ski in Europe. Excellent skiing is certainly not the only reason to visit this ski area. Saas Fee seems to like drawing attention to itself! It does this by breaking world records... three in total! The first is the Revolving Restaurant Allalin, situated at an altitude of 3500m at the top of the Allalin mountain. This is officially the highest revolving restaurant in the world. From here you are treated to 360 degree views of the whole mountain range and in particular the stunning blue glacier below. If you want to feel on top of the world, Saas-Fee is the place to lunch!

The second world record awarded to the ski resort of Saas-Fee Saastal is for the world's highest metro, or in other words, a train which starts at the the top of Felskinn at 3000m altitude and takes you through the heart of the mountain up to an altitude of 3500m! And last but not least is the world's largest ice grotto, the Ice Pavilion on the Allalin at 3500m above sea level. If you have ever wondered what a glacier looks like from the inside, or have been asking yourself how deep the crevasses in the ice go, here you can find the answers to all your questions! You can explore this magical grotto which has existed for thousands of years in Switzerland and has a total volume of 5500 m³! It is essentially a series of walkways through the inside of the glacier which meet up in a central exhibition area where there are some stunning ice sculptures and other exhibits. Make sure you wrap up warm!

High-altitude skiing at Saas-Fee

Half of the 100km of ski slopes in Saas Fee are dedicated to intermediate skiers as there are 50km of excellent and varied red runs. The remaining 50km of runs are equally shared out between the beginners and experts. There are plenty of steep descents for advanced skiers including some 'yellow' runs which are actually off-piste areas which have been marked out as runs or maintained as mogul fields. We highly recommend you start your week's skiing in Saas Fee on the Plattjen area and end your week on the Allalin area - most people do it the other way round. Saas-Fee is able to open for summer skiing thanks to the glacier ski area on the Allalin, and the world-class snow park here draws freestylers from around the world to train in the summer months.
