Halifax in short
-
Lovely views of the surrounding hills
-
Excellent facilities
-
Family-friendly and easy to access
Another World sits at the relatively low altitude of about 350m. It’s the southernmost outdoor ski area in the UK, which means that snow cover is not always guaranteed. But when conditions are good, this is one of England’s most exciting ski areas. Easy to access from Leeds and Manchester, Another World is a great option for a day trip on wintry days.
The original home of Mackintosh’s toffee, Halifax is the natural choice for skiers looking for accommodation in the vicinity of Another World. It’s a sizeable and bustling heritage town with a colourful history, formerly an important player in the wool industry. From here it’s a short 15-minute drive to Another World, and should the snow not be up to par, there are plenty of things to see and do in Halifax itself.
Alternate activities
Modern-day markets include the Piece Hall, the city’s former cloth hall, and the Borough Market, a covered Victorian market hall. There are also several theatres and a peaceful public park.
Restaurants and bars
The cabin at Another World is quite sophisticated and serves as the après-ski epicentre. On busy days they serve a limited selection of hot meals, and they throw the occasional party throughout the winter. Halifax’s town centre enjoys a thriving night scene with plenty of pubs and some good restaurants – try the Design House Restaurant or Ziggys Spice House.
Families
Another World has a slope that is specially prepared with beginners in mind, and is probably one of the better places in England to learn how to ski as it is also possible to rent equipment if you phone in advance. After skiing, children won’t want to miss a visit to Eureka! The National Children’s Museum, in Halifax. The Halifax Swimming Pool is also sure to keep them occupied for a few hours on a rainy day. There are several day nurseries available in Halifax.
