Ski area Steamboat

Steamboat in short

  • Height: 2103 - 3224 metres
  • Famous for the 'Champagne Powder'
  • Night skiing
  • Also great for snowboarders

Steamboat is blessed with a plethora of gladed runs with piles of powder. In fact, Steamboat holds the trademark for the term “champagne powder,” the light and fluffy snow that is found in many ski areas in the Rockies. Even the most discerning purist will find no fault here. In general, the terrain is best suited to confident intermediates, with the ski area spread across six mountain peaks and beautiful views of the wooden hillsides to top it all off.

The Sunshine Peak includes a wide range of blue runs, but also some challenging terrain under the Sundown chairlift for the more demanding skier. There is a beginner’s section at Headwall, at the foot of the mountain. Advanced skiers should take a look at the slopes of Morningside or try the area under the Sundown Chair lift on the Sunshine Peak. There is also superb off-piste terrain, which is, unfortunately, particularly prone to avalanches - so check conditions before venturing off the marked runs! Steamboat has four funparks: Rabbit Ears for beginners, Sunbean for advanced, Beehive for the kids and Mavericks for the pros. Cross-country skiers will find 16km of groomed trails at the Touring Center.
